Eurovision 2024

It’s just around the corner now, yes only a few weeks until the big final!

This year, Sweden is hosting the Eurovision Song Contest, promising an extravaganza bigger than ever. With the BBC covering the event, you can easily stream it to a cinema screen in your back garden – perfect for a family get-together!   🎉

Starting back in 1956, Switzerland was the first to host a Eurovision Song Contest, with only 7 countries participating. Fast forward to 2024, and a whopping 37 countries are competing for the coveted title!

Believe it or not, Eurovision began as a technical broadcasting experiment by the BBC. Inspired by an Italian music festival, it has since evolved into a beloved piece of family-friendly entertainment.

The current Eurovision Song contest is good fun for the whole family.

Its diverse range of music genres and colorful performances make it a truly unique experience. Plus, it always sparks some family-friendly banter!

The final is set to place on Saturday, May 11th, 2024

And we’re excited to have Olly Alexander representing the UK this year with the song Dizzy! With three albums, a BRIT Billion award, 10 top 40 singles, being an actor and fashion icon, he does have a lot to offer. We REALLY wish him the best of luck, he sure is a strong contender.

If you’re planning on hosting a Eurovision party at home or in a back garden cinema!, we’ve got loads of ideas to help you make it memorable.

Let’s start with a theme – being a cultural extravaganza, Eurovision lends itself to a multitude of themes, why not:

  1. Choose a costume theme that pay tribute to the Contest’s past winners, or simply inspired by previous Eurovision artists.

  2. Ask your guests to dress in the flag colours of the country they wish to win.

  3. Glitz and glitter are always in abundance at Eurovision so you could hold an environmentally friendly shimmer and shine party! Check out these products, they are so much fun and they'll last for way more than one party.

  4. Choose one fashion item that has won over the crowds over the years, such as a hat, jumpsuit, shoe type, or mask. Set the fashion item as the theme and let your guests roll with it.

  5. For those less into dressing up, they could design a flag to represent their favourite artist, bring a flag that represents the country of who they want to win, dress in a colour, or paint a flag on their cheek, or arm.

Games – Have a root around online, there are loads of Eurovision bingo games, or quizzes to play.

  1. If you wanted something homemade, try making your own scorecards and rate each performance with them. Or devise a ‘Eurovision Predicts’ game, where everyone must guess which country they think will come first, second, third, fourth and last!

  2. Have you played the forfeit game? In this game, give each person something they must look out for, say a contestant wearing a glittery outfit, or someone wearing sunglasses, or a hearing a love song. When their ‘thing’ comes up, they must do a forfeit. The forfeit doesn't have to be something unpleasant, some kinder ideas could be to stand up and shout hi, do a silly dance or do a push-up - but naturally it's your party, you can decide how kind you want to be!

  3. And don’t forget the Eurovision app - for all you need to know about Eurovision at the tips of your fingers

Music – obviously, this is a huge part of the party!

  1. Make a playlist – this can be no other than a classic Eurovision playlist! It can also be used as an educational game for those who might not have heard some of the songs before.

  2. Dancing competition – if any artist particularly stands out because of their amazing dance routine, then why not try to re-create it? Host a dance off competition and see who is the most accurate – or daring, with their moves.

Food, if you know us here at Resonate, you’ll know how much we love talking about food!

  1. No party is complete without serious grub. The Eurovision is an easy one to cater for as you can literally pick your favourite food and tell you guests your hosting a 'Latvian’, ‘British’, or ‘Turkish’ food night.

  2. Or, if you are inviting guests round to your party, ask them to bring a national dish with them. Assign everyone a country and which course of the meal they should create. This can be very interesting!

So get ready for the party of your life.

There’s fun for everyone at the Eurovision Song Contest and our screens are superb to view all the magic and mayhem! Why not give us a call and see whether a garden cinema Eurovision party ticks all your boxes.
